Atty. Kathleen Nastri Elected AAJ State Governor

June 9, 2008

BRIDGEPORT — Kathleen Nastri, an attorney at the law firm of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, has been elected State Governor of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) by the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA.)

Nastri, who is currently an AAJ State Delegate, was nominated to the governorship position at the CTLA annual meeting on June 2.

“Kathleen was the first woman president our association had, and I have to say that when it comes to someone who can speak for CTLA and the job we do, Kathleen is one of our finest,” said Neil Ferstand, executive director of CTLA.

“We continue to rely on her as a spokesperson,” he said. “She is a professional and the association made a fine choice in selecting her to serve as representative from Connecticut to the AAJ Board of Governors.”

Nastri is co-chair of the CTLA’s Continuing Legal Education committee and editor of the “Verdict and Settlements” column of CTLA Forum Magazine. Before joining Koskoff she had been head of the Plaintiff’s Personal Injury Practice Group at a Waterbury-based law firm, where she began assisting clients in 1986. She is a Fellow, Connecticut Bar Foundation and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

“I’m honored to represent Connecticut in this organization,” said Nastri. “AAJ’s mission is to promote a fair and effective justice system – and to support the work of attorneys in their efforts to ensure that any person who is injured by the misconduct or negligence of others can obtain justice in America’s courtrooms, even versus the most powerful.”

Nastri focuses on personal injury and medical malpractice, and has brought to trial a number of precedent-setting cases. She won $3.49 million for a 4-year-old Windsor boy who suffered from Erb’s Palsy as a result of obstetrical negligence, believed to be the largest award in Connecticut history for a case of that kind.

Nastri assumes the state governorship after mid-July’s AAJ annual convention in Philadelphia.

Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, nationally known for personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability, and class actions, concentrates its practice in handling cases for people who suffer serious personal injury or economic harm. Attorneys from Koskoff have been responsible for important changes in the conduct of corporate and government defendants. The firm has offices in Bridgeport and New Haven.
