Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed type of cancer for both men and women.
The good news about skin cancer is that the most prevalent form, basal cell carcinoma (BCC), is the least likely to metastasize or spread. If found early, most BCCs can be taken care of in a dermatologist’s office.
The second most common form of skin cancer is squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). While it is more serious than basal cell carcinomas, SCC has a relatively low rate of metastasis.
Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer. It frequently spreads to other areas of the body.
Most medical malpractice in skin cancer cases involves a failure to diagnose the condition, especially melanoma. Doctors who do not recognize a melanoma, who fail to order a biopsy or who delay treatment of a lesion that tests positive for melanoma may be held responsible for the damages they caused.
