Medical Malpractice

Medical Malpractice

Not every bad medical outcome is caused by malpractice. But, when it is, KK&B has the experience, personnel and resources to find it. Once a suit is instituted we have a team of experienced, professional trial lawyers capable of proving the case.

Investigation: Joel Lichtenstein, the partner in charge of the malpractice investigation team, has more than 35 years of legal experience devoted exclusively to medical malpractice. During this time he has personally reviewed more than twenty five thousand hospital records. Assisted by two nurse/paralegals, an extensive medical library, on-line support, and unique in-house databases of nationally known medical consultants, the team is fully equipped to review and investigate even the most complex medical cases.

Preparation: When medical malpractice is detected, the case is turned over to an experienced trial team many of whom devote their time exclusively to handling malpractice cases. Proper preparation of these cases is the key. Malpractice cases are generally so complex they require personnel to be up to date on developments in both law and medicine. Team conferences, subscriptions to medical journals and consultations with medical authorities occur on an ongoing basis to accomplish this goal. This team travels throughout the United States and beyond to find the best possible experts to help us prove our case. The testimony of these experts is generally taken before trial and often leads to favorable settlements for our clients.

Trial: In the event a favorable settlement cannot be reached, each case is fully prepared for trial. KK&B attorneys have set record jury recoveries for their clients in medical malpractice cases in the State of Connecticut. The firm's recent 36.5 million dollar malpractice verdict against Hartford Hospital is the highest jury verdict ever achieved in the history of the State. KK&B has won the four largest medical malpractice awards in Connecticut history.

In another case, we obtained 3.8 million dollars for the brain-damaged child of a Sioux Indian woman who received sub-standard care in a Government Hospital in South Dakota. We are hopeful that the resolution of that case will result in improved health care for the Native American population.

Experience: KK&B has more than three decades of experience representing seriously injured patients in medical malpractice cases.
