Ferry Accident in New York City

On Behalf of | Jan 9, 2013 | Personal Injury

More than 50 people were injured Wednesday morning when a ferry headed for New York crashed into a dock in lower Manhattan. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

The injured passengers were taken to Manhattan and Brooklyn hospitals. Two of the passengers’ injuries are reported to be critical.

While ferry accidents are not common, there have been several in the Connecticut/New York area in the recent past.

Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder represented the family of a truck driver who was killed when his tractor-trailer rolled off the New London ferry, the Susan Anne, into Long Island Sound.

According to CNN, in 2010, a ferry boat reported to have mechanical problems crashed into the Staten Island Ferry terminal, injuring 36 people. In 2003, that same ferry, the Andrew J. Barberi, was also involved in a crash that killed 11 people and injured 42, considered one of the worst ferry accidents in the New York City’s recent history.
