Lawyers Honor Michael P. Koskoff with Lifetime Achievement Award

June 18, 2008

BRIDGEPORT — Atty. Michael P. Koskoff, a partner at the law firm of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, received the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA) Lifetime Achievement Award during ceremonies in Westbrook today.

This prestigious award, based on peer selection, has been bestowed only seven times since the inception of the organization more than 50 years ago. Atty. Richard A. Bieder, also a partner at Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, received the award in 2004.

“Throughout his legal career, Michael Koskoff has dedicated himself to championing the cause of victims in our society who deserve redress in the civil justice system,” said Neil H. Ferstand, Executive Director of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association. “Michael upholds the honor and dignity of the legal profession and the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity.”

Widely known for his courtroom litigation experience, Koskoff has handled major medical malpractice cases, aviation cases, personal injury cases, drug product liability, anti-trust, civil rights and class actions. He has been featured on the cover of Connecticut Magazine and listed in The Best Lawyers in America™. He lectures frequently to trial lawyer groups throughout the nation, is featured on numerous educational tapes for lawyers and has published many articles about trial technique.

Koskoff is an ardent supporter of many community activities. He currently serves as a Commissioner on Connecticut’s Judicial Selection Commission and is past chair of the Special Masters program for the Federal Court in Connecticut.

In addition to his work for injury victims, Koskoff handled litigation that was responsible for integration of the police and fire departments in Bridgeport and New Haven, He was awarded the Dedicated Service Award of the National Association of Black Patrolmen, the Waverly Jones Freedom Award of the Greater Bridgeport NAACP, and the Dedicated Service Award of the Afro-American Educators Association.

Michael Koskoff is responsible for sponsoring an annual lecture series at Quinnipiac College School of Law, where he served as a member on the Advisory Board, and helped to establish the Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder Trial Courtroom at the University of Connecticut Law School.

The award came on the heels of another honor: recently, Koskoff was named a Fellow of The International Society of Barristers, an international organization of outstanding trial lawyers headquartered at Michigan Law School.

Koskoff’s Lifetime Achievement Award was presented at the CTLA annual meeting in Westbrook, Conn. Speakers that evening included Atty. Carey Reilly, also of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, who has recently won a number of landmark verdicts in appellate cases.

Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, nationally known for personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability, and class actions, concentrates its practice in handling cases for people who suffer serious personal injury or economic harm. Attorneys from KK&B have been responsible for important changes in the conduct of corporate and government defendants. The firm has offices in Bridgeport, Danbury, New Haven, and Stamford.
