BRIDGEPORT — Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo today announced that the Bridgeport-based law firm of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder has become its first Corporate Partner, by donating $5,000.

The not-for-profit organization, which relies on the State of Connecticut and the City of Bridgeport for one-third of its funding, also announced that the Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder contribution marks the first step in a new campaign to rally corporate support for the State’s only zoo.

“With their generous donation of $5,000 to us this year, we are delighted to declare that Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder is our first Corporate Partner,” said Gregg Dancho, Zoo Director. “We have been actively looking for corporate partnerships this summer. A minimum donation of $5,000 is necessary to become eligible, and Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder is the first corporate leader to step forward.”

Donations to the Zoo support its mission of conservation, education, research, and family recreation, Dancho said. Channeled through the Connecticut Zoological Society, donations also protect wildlife and wild places through outreach efforts.

As a corporate partner, Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder will fund critical programs at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, from educational resources to expanded animal habitats to added recreational programming.

“We’ve had tremendous success with our unique conservation and breeding efforts,” Dancho said, “such as our Brazilian ocelot breeding program, where we are actively increasing the population of this endangered species. Corporate Partners such as our friends at Koskoff make important accomplishments like this possible.”

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo also has expanded its teacher resources on its Web site, providing animal facts, conservation tips, lesson plans, and suggested activities. The Zoo strives to align itself with Connecticut Science Standards, focusing on appropriate scientific concepts from grades kindergarten through high school.

“We are delighted to become Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo’s first official Corporate Partner,” said Attorney Richard Bieder of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder. “We look forward to supporting prairie dogs, timber wolves, and the occasional Amur tiger, whenever they require our services.”

Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, nationally known for personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability and class actions, has offices in Connecticut and can be found on the Internet at www.koskoff.com.

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo features 300 animals representing primarily North and South American species, including the Amur (Siberian) tiger, Andean condor, ocelot, red wolf, Andean (spectacled) bear, maned wolf, and golden lion tamarin. Other highlights of the zoo include the South American rainforest with free-flight aviary, the prairie dog exhibit with “pop-up” viewing areas, the New England farm yard with goats, cows, pigs, sheep and other barnyard critters, and the ‘hoofstock’ trail featuring bison, pronghorn, deer and more. Visitors can enjoy the Peacock Café and Picnic Grove, and ride the indoor carousel. For more information, visit www.beardsleyzoo.org.
