BRIDGEPORT – Joshua D. Koskoff, 38, has been named one of Connecticut’s “New Leaders of the Law” in the annual competition sponsored by the Connecticut Law Tribune.

Koskoff, a partner at Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, was selected in the category, “Development of the Law” because he “handled cases that have pushed the boundaries of the law, that have helped define judicial interpretation, that have set legal standards for others to follow,” the weekly newspaper said.

In its review of cases Koskoff handled, the Law Tribune cited a 2003 jury award of $10 million on behalf of the widow of a 49-year old man who died because his heart condition was misdiagnosed. The award included $4 million for the widow’s loss of consortium, the largest award of its kind in state history. In another 2003 case cited, Koskoff won $810,000 on behalf of an 89-year old woman whose doctor botched a surgery to repair a leg fracture. The doctor’s insurance company had refused to settle the case years earlier for $500,000 and offered nothing right up to the time of the trial.

Koskoff, a resident of Westport, Conn., is a member of the Bridgeport, Connecticut, and American Bar Associations, the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. His two main areas of expertise are medical malpractice and personal injury. He is the third generation in the law firm founded by his grandfather Theodore I. Koskoff in 1936. His father, Michael P. Koskoff, now heads the law firm.

Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder has offices in Bridgeport and New Haven. The nationally known law firm has achieved record verdicts for people who suffer serious personal injuries or economic harm from medical malpractice, violation of their civil or constitutional rights, dangerous products, negligence, drunk drivers, corporate or governmental abuse and commercial misconduct.
