BRIDGEPORT — Diana V. Orozco, a paralegal at the law firm Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, has been nominated to the board of the Brain Injury Association of Connecticut.
“We are thrilled to have Diana Orozco on our board,” said Julie Peters, Executive Director of the Brain Injury Association of Connecticut (BIAC). “Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder has been our long-time staunch supporter and so we are very pleased to have someone from the firm on our board as we move toward the future. Diana is very enthusiastic and will be a tremendous asset to our endeavors. And we are especially glad that she is based in Fairfield County, an area of the state in which we are trying to increase our presence.”
“I am delighted to serve on the board of this important organization,” said Orozco. “Brain injuries disable more Americans each year than breast cancer, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, and HIV/AIDS combined. Our focus is two-fold: as a resource in recovery, our advocates work to ensure that survivors, their families, and their caregivers are connected to the appropriate services and professionals. Also, we work to facilitate both independent living and meaningful inclusion at home, at school, and at work.”
In addition to her role as board member, Orozco is on the planning committee of BIAC’s largest fundraiser, the 22nd Annual Golf Tournament scheduled for today at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course in Bloomfield. Orozco also serves on BIAC’s fund development committee. “I look forward to working towards BIAC’s financial growth so that we may expand the vital work we are doing throughout the state,” she said.
Orozco received her associate’s degree with paralegal certification from the University of Bridgeport and a bachelor's degree from Sacred Heart University in legal administration. She has been with Koskoff, Koskoff &Bieder since 1984 when she began working as a word processor. She was promoted to paralegal in 1992. Orozco is married with two children and currently lives in Milford.
“Clearly, it is my hope that we can not only help survivors but educate the public – because the only real cure for traumatic brain injury is prevention,” Orozco added.
Founded in 1981 by the families of brain-injury survivors and the social service professionals assisting them, BIAC is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with brain injury, their families, and caregivers.
As a partner in prevention, BIAC works with individuals, organizations, schools, and government to educate everyone, young and old, about both the causes and realities of brain injury. BIAC provides peer mentoring and community advocates to sufferers of brain injury, as well as support groups for their families.
BIAC also has a legislative advocacy branch through which it lobbies for legislation to improve the quality of life for people living with brain injuries while supporting initiatives that help to prevent brain injuries from occurring.
